The Costa Brava is situated in the province of Girona in the very north east of Spain, part of the region known as Catalonia. It borders France to the north and leads down to the town of Blanes (about 60km north of Barcelona).
The Costa Brava is one of the most well known Costas in Spain. It was originally promoted in the 1950's to northen Europeans and underwent massive development to ensure it was the package holiday destination of choice.
Although a major part of the area is designed for the sun seeking tourist, the Costa Brava has, even to this day, many relatively unspoilt resorts along with maritime and nature reserves.
